Board of Directors

The Board of Directors consists of a non-executive Director and Chair (Mr Howard Stack), and non-executive Directors (Dr Philip Dubois, Dr Charles Ho, Mr Justin Schaffer, Mr Richard Aird and Mr Jonathan Schaffer (Alternate Director to Mr Justin Schaffer)). The Directors bring to Magnetica a broad range of public company, growth and manufacturing experience, together with expertise in diagnostic imaging (including practicing radiologists from Australia and the US) and extensive technological understanding of MRI.

Non-Executive Director and Chair
Howard Stack  (BA, LLB)

Mr Stack is a leading professional corporate director with significant experience in high growth corporations. He has served as Chairman of Australian National Industries, Data #3 Limited, Southern Cross Pumps and Irrigation, Voxson Limited, and Eastern Corporation Limited, and as a director of Waratah Coal Inc.. He has served as both Chairman and Deputy Chairman of ASX listed Redflow Limited.


Mr Stack was a partner in the Brisbane based commercial law firm Feez Ruthning from 1969, and its Managing Partner from 1992 until its merger with Allen Allen and Hemsley in 1996. He retired from Allens in 2001. He has also been Chairman of Brisbane Grammar School Board of Trustees since 1991, and served as a Director of Queensland Events Corporation.

Non-Executive Director
Dr Philip Dubois  (MBBS, FRCR, FRANZR, FAICD)

Dr Dubois is a Director of ASX listed Sonic Healthcare Ltd. He is the Chairman of the Sonic Imaging Executive, and is the CEO of Sonic Healthcare’s Imaging Division. As the author of over fifty scientific publications, he has been a speaker at many national and international conferences in the field of diagnostic radiology.


Dr Dubois is an Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Queensland Medical School and has represented his profession on numerous government and craft group committees. He is also Vice-President of the Australian Diagnostic Imaging Association (ADIA), a Councillor and the National Radiology Craft Group Representative of the Australian Medical Association (AMA).

Non-Executive Director
Dr Charles Ho  (MD, PhD)

Dr Ho is currently a Professor of Radiology, University of Colorado Medical School in Denver, Colorado and Director of Imaging Research at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado. He also serves on the Research Advisory Committee of the Institute. He has served as Regional Medical Advisor to the USA Decathlon Team, and as Radiologic Consultant to high-profile sports organizations, including the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, US Ski Team, Cleveland Indians, the Colorado Rockies, and the Denver Broncos.


Dr Ho has published and presented over 300 articles, book chapters, and conference papers, many of them relating to the application of musculoskeletal and sports medicine MRI and has worked with MRI systems developers assisting in specification and prototype testing. He is a resident of the United States, received his BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from MIT, PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, and MD from Stanford University School of Medicine.

Non-Executive Director
Justin Schaffer  (BA (Econ), MBA)

Mr Schaffer has a depth of business experience internationally, as a Chairman, Executive Director and CEO of numerous large organisations. He is familiar with technology start-ups and has founded and run several successful high-tech companies. He is a Non-Executive Director for a number of high-tech start up companies in South East Queensland. Early in his career, as a shareholder and CEO of Duropenta Plastics, he built the company to become the largest plastics manufacturer in South Africa. As CEO when this business was sold to AECI Ltd, he set up a Joint Venture with French and Israeli partners to establish a Drip Irrigation business in Spain and U.S.A.


As CEO of South African Nylon Spinners Ltd. Mr Schaffer grew the company to become the largest producer of nylon and polyester yarns, fibres and PET polymer in the southern hemisphere and one of the most profitable synthetic fibre businesses in the world. Later in his career Mr Schaffer ran, re-structured and restored profitability to the Frame Group. In 1993 he and four partners started Tracker Network Ltd, a stolen vehicle recovery business using technology from LoJack Corp., USA. The company now has sales revenues exceeding A$500million p.a. He and his partners continue to serve as non-executive directors.

Non-Executive Director
Richard Aird

Mr Aird is the Chief Operating Officer of ASX listed Redflow Limited. He is a highly experienced operations and project manager with over twenty years in commercial management, development and operations in construction and agribusiness. Mr Aird was the CEO of Magnetica from July 2013 to January 2017; prior to this, he spent five years working in the fields of product development, prototype deployment and commercialisation of technology in the electrochemical and plastics industries.  During that time, he was involved with demonstration projects, the establishment of pilot manufacturing, quality systems and scoping of outsourced manufacturing opportunities both offshore and in Australia.  He brings to Magnetica a wealth of experience in creating and developing strong partnerships.  

Non-Executive Alternate Director
Jonathan Schaffer

Mr Schaffer joined the Magnetica board in 2017 as an alternate to Mr Justin Schaffer. Having qualified as a Chemical Engineer, Mr Schaffer worked for four years in South Africa’s nuclear industry in the Uranium Enrichment Corporation facility near Pretoria. Thereafter he joined a boutique agency business importing chemicals and plastics before emigrating to the UK in 1985. After working with an international trading company specialising in barter and counter trade operations, he started his own trading business in 1988. The company later specialised in the toy industry, created its own brand and changed its name to Plum Products Ltd.


Mr Schaffer migrated with his family to Australia in 2009 and established Plum Products Australia Pty Ltd as a sister company to the UK company, and later Plum Products Hong Kong Ltd. Today, Mr Schaffer is Chairman of the same business. The group has sales under its Plum brand of activity toys in excess of US$20M in more than 40 countries, employing about 50 full time staff in four countries.

Company Secretary
Stephen Denaro  (BA, Grad Dip (Corporate Governance), CA, MAICD)

Magnetica’s Company Secretary is Mr Stephen Denaro, a respected company secretary experienced in start up, IPO and publicly listed companies.  Mr Denaro has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, business valuations, accountancy services and income tax compliance gained from holding positions as Company Secretary and Chief Financial Officer of various public companies, and with major chartered accountancy firms in Australia and the United Kingdom.  He provides company secretary services for a number of start up technology companies.


Stephen has a Bachelor of Business in Accountancy, Graduate Diploma in Applied Corporate Governance, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
